![]() ![]() The most basic of the C-major chords is C-E-G-C. Variation notes in that scale are arranged into chords, which are the main components of harmony. Major and minor scales are used extensively in Western music. There are no eight-note chords in this work, but rather simple melodies with scales, arpeggios, and trills. Mozart used a formula that was commonly used in concertos and was rarely in any way out of step with it. Mozart’s 27 piano concertos are regarded as one of the greatest pieces of classical music ever composed by some critics. (There is a lot of controversy here as well.) His 27 piano concertos, most of which were written between 17 (!), are widely regarded as one of the greatest body of classical music ever composed (there is also some controversy here.) His bassoon playing is outstanding, and his autobiography is fascinating. His bassoon playing is virtuosic and musically sophisticated, and his recordings reflect this. Garfield’s influence on bassoons and classical music can be felt in and of itself. In addition to his collaborations with leading classical composers, such as Stravinsky, Bartok, and Dvorak, he writes. He describes his early passion for the instrument, his apprenticeship with the noted bassoonist and teacher Max Rudolf, and his time with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Garfield describes his experiences with the bassoon in his memoir A Life in Music. He has received several awards in addition to the Grammy and National Medal of Arts. He has received critical acclaim for his performances of contemporary classical music, Baroque, and Classical music. Garfield has been a soloist and member of the Philadelphia Orchestra for many years, and he has made a number of recordings. ![]() If Mozart did indeed play the bassoon, it is likely that he was quite skilled at it, as he was with all the instruments he played. However, some experts believe that he may have played the instrument, as he was known to be proficient in a number of different instruments. There is no definitive answer to this question, as there is no record of Mozart ever playing the bassoon. The dramatic conclusion is a small but powerful piece that has a strong spirit in its rushing scales and other energetic elements. Mozart’s writing here is elegant but restrained in contrast to his earlier works, which were energetic but restrained. Regardless of when they were written, all of Mozart’s bassoon concertos are delightful works that show off the instrument’s lyrical and expressive potential. The other two were written later in his career and are more technically demanding. There are only four known bassoon concertos that Mozart composed, two of which were likely written for his own use while he was a bassoonist in the Salzburg court orchestra.
